The Orthopaedic department at Vinodhagan memorial hospital is a pioneering department in orthopaedics when it comes to the modern treatment of many orthopaedic problems including trauma. The department consists of 4 orthopaedic consultants with a cumulative experience of more than 100 years, and has carried out more than 40,000 major orthopaedic surgical procedures. The department pioneered many orthopaedic surgical procedures for the first time in this entire area including joint replacements, various surgical procedures for trauma, spinal fixations, pelvic and acetabular surgeries, microscopic fenestration discectomies for the lumbar spine, arthroscopy of the knee and shoulders for sports related injuries etc. The department has two international publications to its credit. Our consultant Dr Leo Joseph also serves as the secretary of India’s premier joint replacement society, the Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Aided ably by its staff, the department strives to continue its work in orthopaedics including trauma with persistant vigour.
